Graduate courses are $500 per credit. Institutional scholarships may be available for certain types of students.
You work at your pace, have readings, videos, and slideshows, then complete assignments and questions and get and provide feedback in a discussion.
Students gather in collaborative teams in alternation with their personal use of the course online resources. They alternate both team work and individual learning formats. On each campus, each cohort has a facilitator.
Question: I see that you are developing construtive Small Private Online Courses (cSPOC) along the line of cMOOCs.
I understand that a MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course, and smaller groups provide more effective learning environments.
What is a cMOOC and how is the cSPOC different from a usual MOOC?
Most Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) are composed of videoconferences or webcasts given by experts in each field. They are also called xMOOC (x for expert). They reproduce the vertical relationship that characterizes traditional academia: an expert and students who need to learn and reproduce the content provided by the expert.
This is NOT what will be organized here. A cMOOC is a connective, constructivist MOOC that quickly builds up a community feel. A cSPOC is a small version of a cMOOC. It has bottom-up components. It is a connective and constructivist private course in which students and teacher share online both asynchronous resources (videos, slideshows, documents, forum) and synchronous interactions (in Zoom meetings, social networking, interactive blogging, and shared writing activities).
An abundance of resources may be provided on each course topic: many videos from various sources on the topic, slideshows, articles of various length and difficulty, topical asynchronous forums for people to discuss their readings, ideas, videos, sites to upload your own information and contribute to the course with your own resources, internet links and videochats. This is a different ballpark. YOU construct your course the way you want it, with your peers. Even though the instructor is an expert, he or she is here to advise and coach, as a facilitator and a consultant, NOT as a purveyor of universal knowledge. Knowledge is situated, and you are the one who knows your context.
What then about assessment? How do you evaluate our progress and give us a grade?
The cSPOC adapts to your needs, module after module. The students are empowered, they teach each other and may decide their own goals and projects.  The emphasis is on the process as much as the product. The product is of your own choosing, it is your project. It can be an individual project, or it can be done with a peer in the class you find affinities with, or it can be a team project.  When you start your project, you define the criteria of your accomplishment in a rubric and we agree on your goal. This agreement may be revisited and revised if needed, as you progress in your project. Thus we use empowerment evaluation on a path to achieving your goals. Your goals may be different from the goals of your neighbor. This is personalized learning: your way, your path and your project, with your resources and those you select in our materials. You are in charge, you control your learning. At the end you need to demonstrate what you realized in your project to get your credits. Then you will get a grade on your transcript.

Question: As I am a graduate student in Semiotics and Culture studies, I am eager to participate in the interesting course called 'Semiotics for Deep Education'. I would be pleased to know about the way I can participate in the course.

Answer: For-credit tuition fee will be for the entire 3-credit course that includes 12 online modules, plus three modules for your final project.  The courses open when a minimum number of participants have applied. Applications will be ongoing. The registration fee will be paid through Paypal or using a credit card at the start of the course. Students will do that by clicking on the button that has the name of the course they chose. You do NOT need to have a Paypal account for that purpose as you have the option to pay with Visa or Mastercard if you do not have a Paypal account.

Q: If there were any last minute problem for me to attend, can I cancel and be reimbursed?

We want students to enjoy maximum flexibility and fairness. You may postpone your course or your registration fee may be used for another course at Deep Institute, if you were unable to attend the course for which you applied. Otherwise, please consult our refund policy and the refund schedule which may vary with the length of classes. Our standards for refund have to go through the approval of the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board.

Q: So, how does it start?

A: As you register as a student, you may approve the Terms of Use of this website, and then select a course you would like to take. Make sure you click on the course only when you are logged-in as a student, otherwise access maybe denied. As soon as you have registered as a students and you paid for the course, you will have access to the course materials, which are placed on the website. There are readings on PDF, slideshows, and streaming videos.  Thus you can prepare for the course by doing your readings in advance. Fully online courses will be accessible right away. Other courses have a scheduled start for the whole team of students to start the modules together at a negotiated pace.  Depending the course, you may be scheduled Zoom videoconference meetings by your instructor to discuss the course contents.

Q: And then what happens during the duration of the course? How do I participate?

A:  A few days before the course starts you will receive a pass to an asynchronous forum that all participants can use 24/7.  The forum may be divided by class topics so each discussion lines focuses on a specific question, input, or topic. You will do your readings and watch the slideshows and videos and prepare for each class meeting with questions and personal reflections.

Q: How will our interactions be organized during the course?

In most courses to the exception of some short snap courses, you will be given access to a link for synchronous videoconferencing. Zoom will be used for direct interactions, either among students, or with the qualified instructor for about 60 minutes on certain days at a time adapted to your timeline, depending your location. If you miss an online meeting you may still be able watch the archive with the video screen capture of the meeting, once it has been edited.

Our courses will officially open after approval of the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board, probably in Summer of 2018.

The deep approach is about mindset and embodied action. It is about persons, humans, in the dynamics of living. It is something people want to live and work for. It is never fully achieved, it is always in the making, and depends upon situations.
