The concept of the project is to create a Deep Institute targeting advanced and deeper understanding (beyond factual knowledge), which is oriented in a way that faculty members and students from many nations can attend and participate in and share projects for a better planet. If a local university is nearby and the Deep Institute concept is proposed to be an enclave within a larger university complex, then it can be a Deep Faculty or a Deep Education Graduate School, or an Integrative College, for example. This Faculty will rely on new disciplinary and transdisciplinary connections, and in addition will bring living knowledge linking it to the real world, allowing self-actualization and social action.
The deep approach is a broad phenomenon that encompasses several domains. It manifest a turning point in the way we reflect on a variety of disciplines such as ecology, economy, engineering, mathematics, cross-cultural communication, psychology, and languages. The trend is influenced by semiotics - the science of meaningful signs - as an overarching discipline, process philosophy and complexity theory to address ontological dualism. The deep approach is an applied trend that is revolutionizing the ways we think about what should be accomplished in Education, and how it should be done. It defines a move towards deeper conceptions of curricula in any disciplines and towards curriculum interconnectedness.
